A Gift for Every Day

As the holiday season draws near, there is a long list of people we are thinking about.
We are so thankful for everyone who has inspired us and shown great kindness as we go about the business of preventing accidents from falling drywall. The support we have received from many people both in and out of the drywall industry is amazing.
The past few years have been harsh on those who make their living in construction. For our friends who have lost jobs, you are not forgotten. Entering 2011, we hope this will finally be the year where sustained improvement gives relief and hope to those that have shouldered more than their share.
Our thoughts are with the families who have lost a loved one in a work accident. Where we call home, this has happened all too frequently this year. Each accident was very different and yet tragically preventable.
Safety cannot take a vacation or holiday. This holiday season, give the gift of caring. Watch out for dangerous shortcuts and be the voice for safety at your workplace. Pay special attention to young or new workers who may not know if their actions have the potential to cause an accident. Know the risks, train properly, supervise the work; these are very important steps towards a safer workplace. Give each other the greatest gift every day of the year, work safe today - go home tonight.
Best Wishes for a Healthy and Safe New Year!

Drywall Accidents/Incidents are Preventable.

Safety is in Everyone's Best Interest

Each drywall accident begins with a final irretrievable moment when the force of falling drywall is set in motion and the outcome cannot be changed.
The injuries can be devastating because drywall crushes everything in its path. It is easy to take this for granted if your livelihood is in a gypsum-products related field.  If not, it is unlikely you will know a sheet of drywall can weigh 100 pounds or more and that a stack of ten sheets can fall with a 6,000 pound force at floor impact.
Falling drywall is not an accident that "just happens".  It is foreseeable that unsecured drywall can easily fall if allowed to become unstable. The Gypsum Association has been warning the industry about this fact for years.
If you are in the business of stocking , installing or managing a jobsite where drywall is stored, please secure or insist that all edge-stacked drywall is safely secured. Safety is an investment not a cost.
